Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:53:54 GMT

Welp, the Gophers men’s basketball team should choose to remember their win over Nebraska on Wednesday. That’s because their second-round Big Ten tournament game went wayward like most of their last-place regular season.Sixth-seeded Maryland had too much firepower and execution in a 70-54 win over 14th-seeded Minnesota on Thursday in Chicago. Maryland will play No. 3 seed Indiana in the quarterfinals on Friday night. The Gophers (9-22) held Maryland without a basket in a four-minute stretch in each half, but didn’t have enough offense from its primary sources.Thursday was also forgettable for Jamison Battle. The forward, who is leaning toward turning pro before next season, didn’t get on the scoreboard until 28 minutes had expired and he finished with only two points. After playing 40 minutes Wednesday, regular leading scorer Dawson Garcia managed only six pointsFreshman center Pharrel Payne continued to show his development, and he was one point off his season high, with 17 points on...

HUMBOLT COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- As winter weather continues pummeling Humboldt County with precipitation, herds of cattle are left stranded in snow without access to food. Several feet of deep snow and downed trees blocked local ranchers from reaching their cows, and the ranchers alerted county officials of the dire situation. "We’ve had some unprecedented weather over the last two weeks, and we’ve received multiple reports of cattle dying off because ranchers cannot get to their cows due to impassable roadways," Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal said. "These cattle are an economic driver, they’re starving and they’re calving right now. So all those things necessitate some drastic measures."Honsal said, "We won’t know until the snow melts how many cattle have died due to these conditions. But I know this for certain, if we don’t act, there’s going to be way more that do die and it will be a catastrophe for our county."A herd of cattle is seen on a snowy mountain. (Image c...
