Google has revealed plans to trim dozens of jobs in the Bay Area in a fresh round of job cuts — but these most recent reductions represent a tiny fraction of the layoffs the tech titan had disclosed early this year.Mountain View-based Google has decided to cut 75 jobs at two adjacent locations in downtown San Francisco. The cutbacks could pose a fresh economic blow to the feeble economy of the Bay Area’s second-largest city. The job cuts are being conducted at 199 and 215 Fremont Street in San Francisco. In 2019, Google rented 140,000 square feet in one of those office sites. Google leased 140,000 square feet in the 215 Fremont building, which totals 373,900 square feet overall, the LoopNet commercial property listing service states. In January 2023, Google disclosed its decision to cut 1,608 jobs at various Bay Area locations. Those early 2023 Google layoffs involved offices in Mountain View, Palo Alto, San Bruno, and at Moffett Field. The latest Google layoffs were sketche...Source: 49ers trade for Chase Young to reunite with Nick Bosa, spark pass rush

SANTA CLARA – Defensive end Chase Young is coming to the 49ers to form what could be a formidable pass-rush tandem with Nick Bosa, a former Ohio State teammate. Bolstering a sagging defense, however, is the over-arching goal for an NFC contender on a three-game losing streak. The 49ers acquired Young from the Washington Commanders for a third-round draft pick, a team source confirmed less than an hour before the NFL’s trade deadline. Young must pass a physical for the deal to become official.Young’s career opened with a similar path as Bosa’s: Both were No. 2 overall picks (Bosa in 2019, Young in 2020), both won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, and both sustained anterior cruciate ligament injuries in their second seasons. Now Young and Bosa reunite to try leading the 49ers (5-3) out of the three-game losing streak they’ve taken into this week’s bye. Bosa has three sacks but a NFL-best 19 quarterback hits since signing the NFL’s richest cont...Body found in suitcase floating in Lake Merritt Tuesday

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett plans to play against Tennessee on Thursday night despite a rib injury that forced him to sit out the second half of a loss to Jacksonville on Sunday.Pickett said he “for sure” will be on the field when Pittsburgh (4-3) hosts the Titans (3-4). The second-year starter watched the final two quarters against the Jaguars from afar after getting drilled by Jacksonville defensive end Adam Gotsis.Gotsis hit Pickett in the left side of the chest and then drove him into the ground in the waning moments of the first half. A growing array of units, including naval, air and ground forces, have joined the effort. The army says it has killed scores of militants and damaged Hamas’ strategic tunnel network. Soldiers have taken over abandoned Palestinian homes to stake out positions.Yet even as the operation expands each day, the army refuses to call it an invasion. Its vague choice of words is more than an issue of semantics. It appears to be a deliberate strategy aimed at keeping its enemy off balance and preserving its options as a lengthy war unfolds. Here is a closer look at what Israel is doing inside Gaza.IS IT AN INVASION?In the classic sense of the word, an Israeli invasion appears to be underway.Ground forces have moved into enemy territory and operated continuously since last Friday.
