Curry scores playoff career-high 50 as Warriors down Kings

Curry scores playoff career-high 50 as Warriors down Kings SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — With his big-game swagger on display for the world and that signature mouthpiece dangling from a celebratory grin, Stephen Curry drove fearlessly to the basket with jaw-dropping acrobatics all afternoon and he fired with precision from way back in a Game 7 extravaganza for the ages.He even playfully pretended to push the button and Light the Beam, Sacramento-style. Curry scored a playoff career-high 50 points in the most prolific Game 7 performance ever and answered time and again to will the Warriors on in their quest for a repeat, sending Golden State into the Western Conference semifinals with a 120-100 win against the Sacramento Kings in Sunday’s winner-take-all Game 7.Curry led a memorable comeback in the series, too, perhaps improbable even for the defending champions when they got down 2-0 and given their road woes all season. “It’s amazing ‘cuz you’re still in the fight,” Curry said. “Better than the alternative of on the outside looking in. McLaughlin nabs IndyCar win at Barber over Grosjean BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Scott McLaughlin was once again racing Romain Grosjean for a potential win. That’s where the similarities to their last run-in ended.McLaughlin got a late opening to surge past Grosjean, took advantage of it and was scarcely challenged the rest of the way Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park, where the New Zealander picked up his fourth career IndyCar win. It was the second time this season they’ve been in that position, but this time McLaughlin and Grosjean avoided getting tangled up. Grosjean had been furious with McLaughlin when the two touched heading into a corner at the season-opener in St. Petersburg, Florida, both slamming into a tire barrier. McLaughlin drew an avoidable contact penalty and later apologized to Grosjean. After winning Sunday, McLaughlin said “there’s no hard feelings” between the two. McLaughlin had hugged Grosjean after their race-ending crash at St. Pete. “I knew if I hit him this time, it would be bad,” McLaughlin said. “I...

Debinha scores both goals in 2-0 Current win over Gotham KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Debinha scored a pair of goals within a four-minute span in the second half and the Kansas City Current downed Gotham 2-0 on Sunday. It was the second straight regular-season victory for the Current, who started the year with three straight losses. The win snapped a two-game winning streak for Gotham (3-2-0), who were playing without Midge Purce because of a hip injury. The Current (2-3-0) pressured Gotham early in the second half, when rookie Michelle Cooper’s point-blank shot was stopped by Gotham goalkeeper Abby Smith. Debinha’s first goal came in the 57th minute when she scored on a break following a pass from Lo’eau LaBonta. The Brazilian scored again in the 61st when Smith came way out of her goal. Debinha became the first Kansas City player with a two-goal game. The Current started play in the National Women’s Soccer League as an expansion team in 2021. ___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_SportsSource

Finau wins Mexico Open, Gooch wins 2nd straight LIV event VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) — Tony Finau never gave Masters champion Jon Rahm or anyone else much of a chance Sunday, closing with a bogey-free round of 5-under 66 that gave him a three-shot victory in the Mexico Open.Finau earned a small measure of redemption at Vallarta Vidanta, where last year he finished runner-up to Rahm by one shot. Finau took a two-shot lead into the final round and was never seriously challenged on the back nine.Rahm wasn’t his biggest threat. Brandon Wu, also a runner-up last year, holed a 45-foot eagle putt on the par-5 sixth hole and made a short birdie on the next hole to briefly tie for the lead. Finau answered with a birdie on the seventh, and then Wu fell back with a bogey from the bunker on No. 8 and a tee shot into the water on the 10th that led to double bogey. Wu shot 68 and finished third.Rahm closed with a 67 and certainly had his chances. He was three behind Finau at the turn, but failed to birdie two of the par 5s with a poor drive on the 12th and a...

Finau holds off Rahm to take Mexico Open for 6th career win VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) — Tony Finau and Jon Rahm play enough golf together away from the PGA Tour that Finau thinks it has only made him a better player. He showed that Sunday in the Mexico Open at Rahm’s expense.Finau was expecting a tough test against Rahm, the Masters champion and No. 1 player in the world. Equipped with a two-shot lead, Finau played bogey-free for a 5-under 66 and never gave Rahm or anyone else much of a chance. He wound up winning by three shots for his fourth PGA Tour title in the last nine months.“Any time you can battle with a guy like Jon Rahm who’s in the form that he was and come out on top, it makes me feel good,” Finau said. “Rahm is a good friend of mine, we practice quite a bit together, so having Rahmbo as like a sparring partner for me has only made me better. And I hope he can say the same.”Finau earned a small measure of redemption at Vallarta Vidanta, where last year he finished runner-up to Rahm by one shot. “Obviously I wanted to win, but it...

Bruins historic season falls far short of the goal

Bruins historic season falls far short of the goal The 2022-23 Bruins made history in the regular season. Now, they are just history. The 65-win team blew a 3-1 series lead and then a late one-goal lead to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 at the Garden on Sunday night before Carter Verhaege scored at 8:35 of overtime. The Bruins have known heartbreak before, but this is right up there with their most shocking, painful playoff losses in their 99-year history. But the Panthers earned every bit of this series, proving more resilient than the team that set the record for most wins in a season. If this is the last we see of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, it’s a very tough way to go out for two guys who should have their numbers in the rafters at some point. The B’s almost got through to the next round. With the Florida goalie pulled, Brandon Montour scored his second goal of the game to tie the 59.3 seconds left in regulation when his shot from the left circle deflected off of Charlie McAvoy’s stick and past Jeremy Swayman ...
